DOC-District of Choice Update
WRITTEN BY Alex Lopez ON March 17, 2017

AB 185 is a proposed Bill designed to update and continue the District of Choice law.  The District of Choice law allows students from any of the surrounding districts to apply to attend Pond School.  If there is room and the student is accepted, a District of Choice transfer is requested from the home district.  When approved, a student may attend Pond School for their entire elementary program K-8.  The present law sunsets (ends) June 30.

The new proposed Bill was approved by the Assembly and approved by the Assembly Education Committee Wed. 3/15.  It now goes on to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for consideration.  The last District of Choice Bill was held in the Appropriations Committee until it died.  All 10,000 students in the state, and 100 Pond students,  who participate in District Choice are hoping for a better result this time around.

We will post an update as soon as we hear any new news.
