Principal's News Letter
WRITTEN BY Alex Lopez ON August 01, 2016
Dear Pond Parents,

Thank you for all your support.  Our Winter Programs were fabulous.  A special thanks to all the staff energy and support to make the programs successful.  This semester we participate in the National "Hour of Code" activity.  All classrooms will continue to work on "coding" in their classrooms. We will begin a robotics club for grades 4 and 5, and continue with our robotics club for grades 6, 7 and 8.  Computer coding is a huge field that is looking for workers.  We want to expose all our students to coding, especially our girls.  This work is part of our career/college exposure for students.

Our two AVID classes went on a tour of CSU Fresno in December.  CSU Bakersfield has a very large event named, "College: Make It Happen".  This event is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders and parents!  There are workshops for parents on how to support their children in going to college. The sessions are in Spanish and English.

We will take students to the World Ag Expo in Tulare in February.  This is one of the largest international Agricultural Fairs in the world.  Students will get to see everything from high tech tractors to drones.

We have also scheduled a tour of the Virgin Galactic facility in Mojave for February for our AVID classrooms. They are working on building spacecrafts to take the general public to space.

We are planning a Career Fair for the spring time.  Please contact us if you are interested in coming to Pond and talking about your profession and the education and skills it takes to stay at your job.

We ae also planning on a parent education class to work with parents on 'How to help my child with reading."  This class will be held one night a week for 7 weeks.  Please attend and learn how to help your child succeed.

Thank you again for all your support.

Sincerely,

Mr. Ohnesorgen
